Q - How often do I need to treat my pet for fleas? A - We recommend using Promeris for the treatment of fleas. It is more effective than products which can be purchased from supermarkets and pet shops. Not only does Promeris treat fleas living on your pet, if used correctly it is also a preventative treament and therefore stops your pet getting fleas. For cats older than 8 weeks, Promeris spot-on needs to be applied once every 6 weeks. For dogs older than 8 weeks, Promeris Duo needs to be applied once every 6 weeks. Frontline spray is also available and can be used on puppies and kittens from 2 days of age.
Q - When can I start my puppy's vaccinations? A - The 1st vaccination is usually at 8 weeks, followed by a 2nd, two weeks later. Your puppy can then go out 1 - 2 weeks after the 2nd vaccination. However, different brands of vaccines have different time scales, so please get in touch with the surgery.
Q - When can I start my kitten's vaccinations? A - The 1st vaccination is usually given at 9 weeks, followed by a 2nd, three weeks later. Your kitten can then go out 1 - 2 weeks after the 2nd vaccination. However, different brands of vaccines have different time scales, so please get in touch with the surgery.
Q - What do I do if my dog's or cat's vaccinations are overdue? A - If your dog or cat's booster vaccinations are overdue by more than 15 months, you will need to start the course again by having a course of 2 primary injections (2 weeks apart for a dog and 3 weeks apart for a cat).
Q - When can I have my puppy or kitten castrated or spayed? A - Dogs can be castrated from 6 months of age and bitches can be spayed at either 6 months of age, or half way between two seasons. This is generally about 3 months after they have finished a season. Both male and female cats can be done from 6 months of age.
Q - What should I do if my pet has eaten something poisonous? A - If it is not a caustic substance (such as bleach or cleaning products), it is advisable to make your pet vomit using a salt-water solution, made up of a large amount of salt in a small volume of water.
